TO GRACEFULLY SLURP. or not…

January 20, 2011

I came across this rather amusing sequence of snaps earlier.

If I recall correctly, they were taken at the Bastille Festival a year or two back. I was there with two of my favorite Possums, Ren & Rose.

As is always the case at these sorts of events, there were oysters… something I generally regard with a little bit of ambivalence.

It started like this:

NOW… as sexy and snazzy as people look when they confidently flick their heads back and gracefully slurp their oysters… I still cannot seem to, well, get my head around the whole thing.. .

SO this little tray comes towards our barrel.. and I start to realise that The Renster isnt going to let me get out of this…

oh well… gotta give everything a try at least once, eh?

THE FACTS:

  • they’re ethically closer to plants than humans, as they have no Central Nervous System, and therefore do not (apparently) feel pain as we do.
  • they are a good source of zinc (!!)
  • healthiest eaten raw on the half shell

THE

 RENSTER

moving

in…

I grasped it uncomfortably.

And cradled it in the nook between my thumb and forefinger.

(well not really – I sort of clasped it uncomfortably)

ALL THIS….

UNDER EXTREME PRESSURE FROM THE PEANUT GALLERY,

 of course…

And so

Under said pressure

I located the best ‘sipping lip’

And went for it.

i was TOTALLY ungraceful in my slurping.

I managed to caress the slimy thing with my molars

(such a brave girl )

Quite an odd thing really.

And so I did it. Ungracefully. But i did it.

 and here’s how it ends…
